Want to join us join us in welcoming refugees to their new home? Gather some of your friends, neighbors, or your community of faith and join us on Aug. 3rd for a cosponsorship training! RSVP HERE. Cosponsorship is a great way to get involved, but before you commit to the training, here are the details:
Co-sponsor groups are usually made up of 8-13 people. We suggest that team members have a variety of availability (meaning some are available during the day, others at night, others on the weekend). This helps especially during the first two months when our families need to go to a lot of doctors appointments.
We ask for a 6 month commitment from groups.
We also ask that groups contribute $1,100 to our general operating budget. This goes towards one-on-one case management, direct employment services (job club, help getting interviews, going to interviews, securing a job). These funds can be raised through fundraising or contribution made individually by group members.
There will be two basic trainings for cosponsorship and we ask that all members that will have contact with the family on a regular basis attend these trainings. The first is a general co-sponsor training that is typically held on a Saturday morning from 9:30am to 1:30pm. Our next training is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The second training will take place at least two weeks prior to your refugee family's arrival. At this training, we will review some of the key points from the handbook, assign jobs among members and make sure all supplies are ready for the families apartment. This would typically be in the evening during a weeknight and would last about an hour and a half.
Additionally, you can find out more about this opportunity at www.canopynwa.org/sponsorship-details and download our cosponsorship handbook.
This training will last 4 hours with a free light breakfast and lunch provided. Childcare is available, if needed (please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by July 22). At the training you'll learn about what Canopy does, Canopy's responsibilities, cosponsor responsibilities, and more!
