A Career Couch’s primary function is to meet with a client on a regular basis to practice English, look for professional resources in the area, and provide assistance with the job search. This includes professional support according to the needs of the mentee. For example:
- Assist clients in obtaining the necessary credentials, education, experience, and job skills to secure employment in professional and/or skilled career fields.
- Discuss appropriate career pathways and help create personalized career development plans, including resume assistance and interview preparation.
- Advise on necessary training and technical assistance, such as digital literacy.
As a Client Services Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to help Canopy through:
- Work alongside case managers to provide administrative support for refugees. This includes filling out important public benefit documents.
- Provide transportation for clients to improve their economic or educational success. This includes transportation to job interviews, medical appointments, parent-teacher conferences, and the Social Security office.
- Provide childcare to clients in need of short-term sporadic relief, especially when clients are attending appointments pertinent to their economic or educational development.
- Accompany clients to appointments
Client services volunteers may be asked to provide a wide range of support, including transportation, childcare, assistance at medical appointments, and other needs as they arise.
Note: If you plan to help transport clients, please have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

The Intensive Case Management (ICM) program is a client-centered program that empowers the most vulnerable to achieve their highest degree of independence through education, individualized/ trauma- informed case management, and holistic community integration support. Neighbors in need of Intensive Support mentors are the most vulnerable population we serve. Volunteers meet socially with the mentee regularly to practice English and provide friendship, as well as to support the mentee in navigating the local community and U.S. cultural norms.
Help us in the coming months as we welcome new neighbors! We are in need of community members who can provide occasional help with move-ins.
You can be a part of preparing a home for new arrivals and creating a warm and welcoming space for them to live when they arrive. Providing a comfortable and safe home for a new family is such an important step in our welcome process.
