Canopy Co-Sponsorship
A Co-Sponsor team is a group of 6-8 volunteers that commit to walking alongside a new family for their first 6 months in the US.
Co-Sponsor teams play a vital role in helping our refugee households integrate into our community. You also help us ensure we meet the various requirements outlined in our Cooperative Agreement.
As a Co-Sponsor team, you are a community guide, friend, and ally.
You can form a team or request to be placed on a team. As a team, you will work alongside Canopy staff to furnish a new household, provide a hot meal, and serve as a new family’s first friends. Learn more about what a co-sponsor is here.
Learn about the Steps to Co-Sponsorship
1. The first step is to form a group of 6-8 people that want to commit to welcoming a new family. If you can't find at least 6 people, gather as many as you can (even if it's just you & a friend!) and we will match you to a team! As a team, you will commit to working alongside a new arrival through the following:
+ Airport pickup: at least 1 person from your team goes to the airport to welcome the new family.
+ Move-in: Team commits to help gather donated furniture and move it to new home, furnish the home as needed.
+ Groceries: Team commits to providing a hot meal upon arrival and at least 3 days of groceries.
+ Fundraising: Team commits to raising $1,200 to go towards resettlement costs.
+ Help with transportation, communication, cultural orientation, and friendship for 6 months!
2. The second step is to attend a Co-Sponsor training as a group.
If you can’t form a team of 6-8 people, gather as many team members as you can and we will place you with another small group to form a full team!
Once you have your group formed, browse our Events page to find an upcoming Co-Sponsor training and sign up together here!
