The Art of Welcome: Home Made — A Week-Long Virtual Fundraising Event

SEP 12 2020

As you may have expected, our annual fundraiser is looking a little different this year. In the space of what historically has been our single-evening Art of Welcome gala event, we are holding a week-long virtual fundraising event—and let me tell you, we are excited!

Follow along as we host an entire week’s worth of celebrations during our 2020 Art of Welcome: Home Made from September 13th – 19th!

Well over a quarter of our total funding comes from fundraising efforts, with our annual fall fundraiser constituting 10% of total annual fundraising. This event is essential to meeting our fundraising goals!

Our annual fall fundraiser makes up around 10% of our entire fundraising goal each year, but this year, due to Covid-19, we are not able to hold our benefit dinner! We still need to raise this money to support our work at Canopy, especially our long-term support services.

Canopy works to ensure refugees are welcomed and equipped with all they need to build new lives— and building new lives in a new place requires extensive work! We are working to help our clients achieve sustained social integration, economic advancement, and overall well-being.

Through our Refugee Support Services (RSS) programming, we can provide long-term case management, economic support, and youth services to our clients. A significant portion of this programming depends on the financial support of our community.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to go towards Canopy’s mission of welcoming refugees home!

Although everything looks different for all of us, we are still focusing on the Art of Welcome, and this year, we want to celebrate what makes a place truly home. The Art of Welcome: Home Made explores the integral aspects of home, including homemade comfort food, unique hand-made art, and a strong community that comes together to welcome newcomers.

Our exciting auction items are crafted by local community artists and chefs, many of whom are immigrants and former refugees.

When you purchase an item, you are not only supporting Canopy’s work of welcoming refugees home, you are also supporting a local small business owner. We are partnering with local small businesses and artists because a community that supports each other is important to making a place feel like a home for all of its members.
