Community Engagement

The United States has a rich history of serving as a safe haven for refugees. Over the past 75 years, our country has welcomed refugees, a tradition that began with legislation enacted after World War II. Since the passage of the Refugee Act of 1980, the United States has admitted more than 3.2 million refugees. On average, approximately 73,300 refugees have been resettled annually over the 43 years of the modern resettlement program.

Canopy is a grassroots, nonpartisan humanitarian organization dedicated to welcoming refugees arriving in the U.S. through the U.S. State Department. We extend an invitation to faith communities, educational institutes, civil organizations, corporations, small businesses, and individuals to join us in creating a welcoming community for our new neighbors. Our goal is to build bridges, engage the community, and widen the table for everyone to join.

We firmly believe that our communities will be enriched by the presence of new neighbors. If you are interested in learning more about the refugee process or our work as a resettlement agency, please contact us. We strive to keep our communities informed, involved, and invested in our collective effort to welcome refugees in Northwest Arkansas.
