Meet Canopy’s Very First AmeriCorps Vista, Aubrey!

With a new year comes new faces joining the Canopy team in 2021. We are so excited to welcome Aubrey Skopp as the Education and Economic Opportunity VISTA. She will play an integral role in our team over the next year developing our In-Home Tutoring Program.

Meet Aubrey Skopp:

Aubrey is from Siloam Springs, Arkansas and graduated from John Brown University in Spring of 2020 with a BA in Intercultural Studies and a minor in psychology. She spent time as an intern and volunteer at Dogwood Literacy Council in Siloam Springs. Aubrey learned about their ESL program and started providing ESL tutoring herself. Professionally, she wants to continue working with ESL programs within the Northwest Arkansas communities.

work that Canopy does and I was excited to hear that they were
planning a new ESL tutoring program within Canopy.”

In-Home English Tutoring Program

As Canopy’s Americorps Vista, Aubrey will be collecting resources and preparing volunteers for ESL tutoring. The goal of the program is to focus on English for employment and job readiness so our families can attain higher earning jobs and navigate community resources as part of our Resettlement Assistance core services.

Refugee Resettlement Assistance

Resettlement assistance at Canopy provides all newly-arriving families with intensive case management and financial support for their first 90-180 days. This assistance comes in a variety of services which include job readiness and English language learning. Learn more about our resettlement program designed to help all families become self-sufficient as they make NWA their home.

The AmeriCorps Vista program was established in 1965 to help local organizations expand their capacity to create change. gain experience, and leadership skills to continue a life of service. Aubrey brings a lot to the table and cannot wait to see what she will accomplish with our English In-Home Tutoring program for our families.
