Give a Gift of Welcome This Season

DEC 7 2020

By Lauren Husband, Communications Team

At Canopy, the act of welcome is central to our mission and values.

We often talk about different ways of welcoming that positively impact our clients— the Long Welcome, our Community of Welcome— but none of that is possible without Gifts of Welcome. Gifts of Welcome sustain our work at Canopy NWA and provide life-changing programs for refugees and immigrants in Northwest Arkansas.

Right now is an especially important time to make sure that refugee families resettled in NWA are receiving the welcoming support they need to succeed in their new home. Finding a new community in the midst of a global pandemic is hard— really hard. And Canopy’s staff is working more diligently than ever to provide clients with every single resource possible to thrive during an a period of incredible stress and uncertainty.

Gifts of Welcome are the final ingredient for success, and each gift, no matter the size, makes an impact on our newest neighbors.

What can gifts of welcome help provide?

Give the gift of Childhood —

A gift of $50 can help Canopy provide a child or teenager with long-term support.

Foundations for lifelong success are established during childhood. Childhood is a time ripe with challenges and uncertainty for both parents and children— now consider navigating childhood in a brand new country; establishing a those foundations for success are even more essential. Through our new Youth Services Coordinator position, Canopy is currently providing over 50 young Canopy clients with academic support, career preparation, college readiness, and enriching extracurricular activities. As 2021 approaches, we expect that number to quickly increase.

Give the gift of Empowerment —

A gift of $75 can provide an ambitious new American sustainable economic empowerment.

Economic empowerment cultivates self-reliance, resilience and confidence. With each step toward total self-sufficiency, new doors are opened that contribute to the local economy, enrich lives, and provide stability. Through The Long Welcome, over 25 adult Canopy clients now have access to financial literacy classes, entrepreneurship support, English language training and career advancement services so that they can build strong financial futures. Looking forward to 2021, we expect this number to grow exponentially! Your gift will help Canopy ensure we meet the needs of the growing number of families.

A gift of $100 can help Canopy continue to provide refugee families with the extended case management services needed for sustained well-being!

Extended case management provides much-needed time for families to continue integrating emotionally, financially, and legally into their new communities.
